Social Life Cycle Assessment for Housing in the New Zealand Context

Completed November 2010

This paper examines the applicability of the Social Life Cycle Assessment of Products guidelines to the New Zealand housing sector as a tool to assist the life cycle management of New Zealand’s housing stock. Consideration is given to the impacts on the three major stakeholder groups: the workers throughout the life cycle; the society in which the life cycle is embedded; and the housing users.  Recommendations are made on the how these guidelines could be adapted to better assess the true social consequences of decisions made under the conditions that prevail in New Zealand.
