Beef greenhouse gas footprinting

The total GHG footprint for beef is being determined for NZ-produced beef through the whole life cycle. This is covering the on-farm stage for a range of farm classes (including beef derived from the dairy sector; and a weighted NZ average), a wide range of beef processors, shipping, through to the USA or Asian consumers including cooking and waste stages. Case study farms are being used to evaluate implications of a range of management/mitigation practices on total GHG emissions, productivity and profitability.
